Have the Apollo missions and missions from the space race been more successful than missions we have now, despite having better technology?

One of most controversial topics today is if NASA should receive more government funding. Back in the 1960's and 70's NASA was leading America through the Cold War by competing against Soviet Russia during the Space Race. Back then NASA received $25.8 billion, which was 4.5% of the federal budget and $264 billion dollars in today's cash (Wall). This is actually 10 times the amount NASA is payed today (Wall). Consequently, NASA seems to have died down in popularity today, especially with Space X making scientific break throughs all the time. By comparing and contrasting programs NASA is working on now to programs NASA worked on during the Space Race, this website will hopefully let you, the viewer, form an opinion on if NASA deserves a larger budget or not.

Davis, Phillips. “In Depth.” NASA, NASA, 26 Jul. 2019,
solarsystem.nasa.gov/missions/voyager-1/in-depth/.
This source provided a lot of detail on what voyager 1 and 2 were, and why they were created. I need this source, because these are missions that were created during the space race, and can help show that with competition, NASA can create better missions. This source can help me show how successful these missions are, and help get my point across.
Greicius, Tony Greicius. “Missions.” NASA,
NASA,www.jpl.nasa.gov.
This source has every single mission being worked on by NASA currently. It has pictures, facts and everything I need to know about any mission occurring right now. This source will help me show the audience current missions, allowing them to compare them to older missions during the space race.
Loff, Sarah. “The Apollo Missions.” NASA, NASA, 16 Mar. 2015,
www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/index.html.
This source goes into detail on every Apollo mission. I like this source a lot, because it is from NASA itself, making it as authentic as it gets, and it also has every Apollo mission in detail. This source will help me show how the Apollo missions were successful. This source also has pictures and even videos from the missions that I can put onto my website.

This article helped me because it gave me facts about what the Apollo missions discovered. These were when the moon was created, and how the moon is lifeless, and all the other facts I said in my speech. This article let me inform my audience more

This source is very important, because it detailed how the space race occurred and affected NASA’s budget at the time. It provided very useful facts, for example how the sputnik satellite started the space race. It also helped me prove the argument that the space race fueled NASA’s larger budget, and without competition NASA just doesn’t get the same kind of respect.
